About Don Koehler

Dr. Don Koehler is a Licensed Psychologist who has been working in the mental health field for 25 years.  He received his doctoral degree from the University of Denver in Human Development & Counseling Psychology .  He specializes in the treatment of anxiety, trauma, depression and relationship conflicts.  He works with Adults, Couples, and Adolescents.   He sees clients in individual, family and group formats.

Don is seasoned clinician, life coach and supervisor.  He has experience in practicing Solution Focused and Mindfulness Based Approaches to therapy.  He has conducted group therapy with men and with mixed groups of men and women. He specializes in groups offering Mindfulness practices that help clients who are experiencing stress and anxiety .

Don's Approach to Therapy

Don approaches his relationship with the client as a collaborator—working with and alongside the client to find new possibilities and solutions that previously were unknown or unseen by the client attempting  to solve his or her problems alone.  He believes the client already possesses everything they need to address his or her difficulties.  So as a therapist, Don facilitates the client’s own resources for healing and growth.  His approach involves more than helping clients “manage” their problems—it provides strategies that transform the problems and the ways clients have unsuccessfully attempted  to address them.  He carefully tracks the progress of therapy and the client’s satisfaction with the effectiveness of the therapy—this is called “client-directed, outcome-informed” therapy.
